Making money in Photography

Hi
Many ask me about the possibilities of making money from photography, and even how much I make. It is important for me to use this journal to explain my approach and point of view. I don't do photography for money. Now, that doesn't mean I don't make money out of it from time to time, but I don't do it for the money.I have a day job where I manage marketing for a media company I work for, so my photography is not something I need to make a living from. If I wanted to make money out of photography I am in a position I can, but I choose not to. Not at this point. Let me explain.

You can make money out of photography in several ways:
1. Photography projects on demand - when someone hires you to take photographs of something (advertising, fashion, architecture, jewelry, etc')
2. Events photography - weddings, congress, etc'
3. Journalism - working for a paper, taking pictures for journal coverage
4. Stock - selling your work for copyrights use
5. Posters - Making money out of prints of your work sold
6. Selling rights of photo exhibits and the showing of your work.
7. Books and Gallery selling

OK, so there are lots of ways, and there are ways to make money out of photography.. But... What if you want to focus on ART? You are left with options 4-7 and that means that you are less in control of your income, because all these options are not permanganate and regular, and more of things that are being offered to you from time to time. Maybe option 4 is different and it can be permanganate, but artists don't like their work to be used as stock.

What I'm trying to say, in other words, is that in deciding I want to shoot art I decided not to compromise on the way I make my money out of photography. I don't want people to use me just to execute technique photography, I want to be the creator and decide to myself how I want things to look no matter what a "client" thinks. In order to keep this way of thinking and working, I know I can't depend on my photography for money.

In time, I hope that options 4-7 would be worth more money on regular bases since I would build a name for myself and be able to sell my work on regular bases.

I can see myself getting there in time, and it's building up as time goes. It's better for me to do it that way since I have obligations to my family to bring money without taking risks. It may be different for you.You may not have a problem with photo journalism, or even weddings and such. There is a lot of money in that and that can be sufficient to be a full time job for you. You may also want to take a risk and try your luck in making money out of art, and I want to tell you that it's possible - good luck no matter what you like to try.

To close this words I want to sum it all up in saying that I don't work for making money, I make money so I could work
